Hailed for his unique sound among countertenors, Don Krim’s “voice says so many things: the sound is gorgeous but further, there is so much inside it! It is a voice which transmits, which is so expressive, which displays such musicality and such a variety of technical resources” (Maestro José María Moreno, music director Teatro Principal, Mallorca.)
Krim’s CD of Peter Lieberson ́s Rilke Songs and Mahler ́s Rückert Lieder, titled I am no longer of this World, is an homage to the late, extraordinary America mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. “Brave and naked...a remarkable performance” (Grawemeyer Award winning composer Peter Lieberson, husband of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson).
Don is trained as an actor first, a classical singer second, and his performance demonstrates his experience in theatre, gesture and movement (Bachelor Theatre Arts, graduate studies and certification in the Alexander Technique and physical education). This theatrical passion informs his repertoire. He seeks music offering possibilities for rich and multi-dimensional character development in performance.
Don has performed internationally in the U.S., Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland and Turkey. He has performed with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra in Palma de Mallorca under Maestro Salvador Brotons, the Classical Concert Chamber Orchestra under violinist and conductor Ashot Tigranyan; he is a regular collaborator with Maestro José María Moreno, Director of the Teatro Principal Opera House in Palma de Mallorca and the Capella Mallorquina; he has performed at the invitation of the U.S. Consul General in Istanbul. He performs solo concerts frequently in California and in Mallorca with his regular accompanists Suzanne Bradbury and Eric Kinsley. He was also a returning guest teacher of movement and acting for opera singers for the legendary Grace Bumbry at the Grace Bumbry Summer Vocal Academy in Berlin and taught the same at the Halifax summer opera festival.
Don lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where recent and upcoming Acting roles have included: The Caine Mutiny (Queeg), The 39 Steps (Clown 1), and a one man show, The Tricky Part (Martin).
